Saudis using Religion as a Smoke Screen

Saudis using religion as screen – says American analyst

“Everybody is exploiting religion for their own greed and this could backfire on Saudi Arabia.”

…by  Jim W. Dean, VT Editor,   … with  Press TV, Tehran

Note:  I was pushing the envelope a bit here with Press TV being the national media network for an officially Muslim country, when bringing up the concept of "exploiting religion." But in the Saudis' case they have nailed themselves. It is not an accusation...but an observation.

These short interviews of course cannot all be posted on the PTV website so I was pleasantly surprized to see this one up...which is why you are. These are a pleasure to do, as they don't involve going to a studio somewhere and killing a few hours out of the day, which can never be made up at the VT work pace.

I was also surprised to see Iraq's Malaki predict that the Syrian mess could bring KSA down. I wonder where he bought his crystal ball?

If you should ever want to pass these around, they download quickly from their website below. Sometimes with a slow connection, the audio can get muddy. But I have found the downloads to play smoother, particularly if you choose the top quality setting.]

Saudis are using religion as a screen to inflate their economic and political sway in the region, an American analyst tells Press TV.

“Saudis are using the religion as a screen, basically for just economic and political power,” Jim W. Dean said in an interview with Press TV on Monday.

He added that the “serious consequences” of the Syrian crisis are going to boomerang as the West’s reputation of any type of advancement in freedom and democracy is being completely destroyed and seen as a tool to achieve its own economic interests.

“So, everybody is exploiting religion for their own greed and this could backfire on Saudi Arabia,” the commentator pointed out.

He said the US and its cronies are okay with the suffering and the killing of the Syrian people “as long as they get what they want, which is to basically have control over these regions and have puppet governments put in place.”

Since March 2011, Syria has been witnessing violence as the country’s army continues to fight with foreign-backed militants.

More than 130,000 people have reportedly been killed as a result of this violence in Syria. A recent report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said nearly 2.5 million Syrians have now registered as refugees with UNHCR in neighboring countries in the Middle East.

According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies – especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey – are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
