Australia - Police were on high alert in Melbourne's south east on Saturday night as the Hells Angels celebrated the opening of a new clubhouse.

A band was blasting loud heavy metal, and party-goers could be seen sitting around fires burning in metal drums outside the clubhouse in Patrick Court, Seaford, where as many as 200 outlaw motorcycle gang members from across Victoria had converged.

The new clubhouse had been the target of a drive-by shooting in June when a number of shots were fired at it. Police road blocks check car and motorbikes into and out of the Hells Angels party.

On Saturday night, dozens of police, including covert officers, saturated the usually quiet street, Bardia Avenue, where they had set up road blocks in both directions either side of Patrick Court. Advertisement

Officers at the road blocks stopped and scoured every vehicle coming through, and frisked passengers before letting them pass.

A Victoria Police spokesman confirmed several units had closely monitored Saturday night's event.

The hundreds of party-goers seemed undeterred after police crashed preparations a day earlier during a raid on the clubhouse, seizing a large amount of alcohol.

The warrant was executed at 11am on Friday as part of the ongoing Operation Resound, which is designed to manage conflict between outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Operation Resound was set up in March in response to the attempted murder of Bandidos enforcer Toby Mitchell.

The Bandidos declared war on the Hells Angels days after Toby Mitchell and another member were ambushed in Melton on March 1.

Chief Commissioner of police Ken Lay said in May that Operation Resound police had executed about 35 warrants and arrested 25 people on a range of offences including drug and firearm charges.
